Celebrate National Flip Flop Day with flip flop lights from Amazon.com (photo courtesy Amazon.com)
If you ask us, as soon as spring has sprung, and the air becomes warmer and the days get longer…well, that means that every day is suitable for Flip Flop Day! However, one smoothie chain has officially declared Friday, June 18 as the day to “free your feet” and revel in National Flip Flop Day.
This is the fourth annual “holiday” for the Tropical Smoothie Café. To mark the celebration, should you happen to throw on a pair of your favorite flip flops and walk into any Tropical Smoothie Café, they will reward you with a FREE 24 oz. Jetty Punch smoothie. Not bad!
We should mention that they also use this opportunity to raise money and awareness for their philanthropic cause, Camp Sunshine. This very special camp is designed as a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. We love that you can enjoy a free treat in your favorite flip flops and then give a little something to others!
Better get going though… the free smoothies are limited to the first 500 flip-flop-wearing customers that stroll into each store. (And, by the way, if you need – or want – a new pair of flip flops for the summer, then National Flip Flop Day seems like the perfect excuse to do a little shopping and indulge your fetish for this casual footwear icon!) We’d love to see or hear about your favorite pair of flip flops so be sure to drop us a comment and share. Enjoy!
Looking for an escape on a budget? Then Two-dollars Tuesday in Destin may be in your future! We found this terrific bargain beach vacation offered by Seascape Resort in the Florida Panhandle. What’s the catch?
Well, you can’t simply enjoy a one-nighter in this beautiful resort location for $2 and then pack your bags and leave. As part of the deal, you agree to a five night stay with one of those days falling on a Tuesday. Essentially, you get four nights at regular price and a fifth night for just a couple of bucks. That seems fair. Not to mention, when we dug deeper into this deal, the current rates start as low as $93 and then top out around $120 or so for condos with a view of the beach.
Although we have not stayed at this particular resort, it seems to have a lot to offer – everything from an on-site golf course and tennis to typcial beachside activities. In fact, you can choose where you stay based on which activities you’re most interested in for the trip – whether it be right on the golf course or right on the beach.
Regardless, being anywhere in Destin in the fall is a terrific experience. The beaches are a little less crowded, the restaurants are always serving scrumptious fare, and there’s more than enough shopping diversions to keep everyone happy on those days you want to take a short break from reading a great book beachside. Honestly, one of our favorite memories at 365Beach is a girls-only weekend escape to Destin. It’s one of those things you’re simply glad you did, even though you had a thousand other things that could have kept you from the beach.
So why not shake loose a couple of bucks from the piggybank, pack your bags and head for the beach? Oh, and did we mention that this deal runs through November – including Thanksgiving? (We’ll take lobster over turkey any Thanksgiving!)
Visit the Seascape $2 Tuesdays webpage for all the details and use promo code FALL2TUES to enjoy a week in Destin. See you at the beach!
Fresh Catch: Decorative Lobster
What’s a long holiday weekend without at least a few visits to thrift stores, antique stores, and yard sales? Sadly, we were hundreds of miles from the nearest coastal waters this weekend, but that didn’t stop us from looking for a few pieces of beach-inspired treasures.
The prize find this trip was from a small antique store in Tennessee, The Cotton Patch. We weren’t expecting much but then stumbled across this retro-style metal lobster. It has a good solid weight to it (as opposed to the newer, lighter-weight metals) and has a hook to hang it on the wall. Truthfully, it was probably lost wall art from an old Red Lobster, but there’s always hope that it has a more interesting history and perhaps made its way south from the harbors of Maine.
Speaking of which, this little beauty – which is likely to be incorporated as table decor at my next seafood boil – only cost $6. The owner of the antique store was quite amused that we felt the need to take this trinket home with us. “You never know what interests folks,” she commented. In fact, she said she had a slightly larger version of this metal lobster which she recalled sold for $12.00 to a woman from Maine. She said the lady was very excited to find it and said something like that would go for at least $60 where she’s from up the coast. The antique store owner then went on to tell us how much she enjoyed calling the lady who originally brought the piece to her. They were sure it would be there “a good year or more,” but it had been scooped up less than 48 hours after being tagged for sale in the store. “You just never know,” she emphasized.
Of course, that story made us very pleased to know that we had found a similar lobster for which someone may have paid nearly $60 for in Maine. But, that’s part of the fun of treasure hunting – even miles from the closest beach. You just never know what you may discover. What seashore-inspired treasures have you found? Send us your photos and your story to info@365Beach.com
Beach Towel from Tommy Hilfiger
Truth be told, these items are part of a slew of end-of -summer discounts and clearance items we found online. However, we refuse to believe that summer may be nearing its end. Still, that won’t keep us from taking advantage of the many bargains being offered right now on classic summer and beach-related items. A quick perusal of Macys.com turned up dozens of items. Who can resist this extra-large (40″ x 70″) beach towel from Tommy Hilfiger? The “Fire Island Fish” pattern is a keeper, and it’s marked down from $30 to $18. There are lots of other designs to choose from, including styles from Lacoste and Lauren Ralph Lauren (that’s not a typo, in case you’re wondering). Beach towels are a great buy any time of the year because you can stock up and not worry about them ever going to waste or being out of style!
Martha Stewart Totes
Speaking of style…we also found this great canvas tote from the Martha Stewart Collection. This large tote makes it easy to carry all your summer necessities and is available in “Sunburst” with yellow, Orange and pink stripes; or in “Big Sky” with blue and green stripes. We love Martha Stewart’s summer products because they are always durable (this tote has a reinforced bottom) and her classic beach colors are timeless. Top off all of that with this great deal and it’s hard to say “no” to Martha! The totes, regularly $60 are available online (also from Macy’s) for $19.99.
Stripes are the thing when it comes to summer clearance. We found great summer throw rugs from Maine Cottage. The rugs, from Pine Cone Hill, are hand loomed and 100 percent cotten. Choose from stripes of either blues (Allegro) or greens (Cantata). Either way it’s the perfect color palette for any coastal cottage. The downside of this bargain is that only the smaller (3′ x 5′) rugs are available; but the good news is that Maine Cottage offers free ground shipping. Given the rugs are only $15 (regularly $35), that’s a beach of a deal!
Waterproof Action Cam
Looking for a video cam that can capture the moment…even if it’s under water? Oregon Scientific has designed the ATC2K as the ultimate, value-driven waterproof action cam. And, today only, Amazon.com is offering the videocamera at a real steal…just $49.99 and that includes free, super saver shipping. That’s 50% off the retail price. Not bad!
Okay, it’s not the cutest or sleekest looking video cam we’ve seen – but still, it has it’s high points. Not only are we captured by the bargain price (come on…who can beat 50 bucks?!), but the video cam has some good features for beach lovers. For starters, the hands-free cam can be easily mounted to helmets, kayaks, surf boards, or other surfaces (note: we haven’t personally tried this but that’s how it is designed) and it’s water-proof up to 10 feet. So, if you’re looking to capture your next kayaking adventure on the ocean, this full-color digital cam is sure to do the trick. And, don’t worry, it comes in at around .5 lbs. with batteries, so it shouldn’t weigh you down. If you’re looking for a bargain, we think this water-proof video cam is just the thing!
